I have reached the stage of awkward...

Today I realized something as I took my recently implemented Wednesday morning college day coffee run, I am not a "student" anymore. Yes I am a college student, but not in middle or high school. As a return from my smiles and nods I received the blank and awkward stares so graciously given by students on their way to class, mainly high school. I wonder, am I that awkward? I'm not that old, only a year older than some of you... Please understand the context in which I am writing, happy, not mad, or offended, nor do I ask how they have the audacity to disrespect me that way.... nope, I am just, remembering. Walking back, I saw two girls, my guess is 8th grade or freshman, they saw me coming when I was about 40 feet away, as I passed, not a glance, no chance for me to let them know that it is a good day, despite the rain and cold, no chance to smile at them and let them know that they are worth speaking to. Of course, I remember the other side of the story, don't look, he/she might think I'm weird, or don't look at me, I'm not worth it , or your old and hairy and creep me out just walk by and leave me alone... and then there is the one that seems absent from our world, the dreamers, the ones so deep in thought about greatness, or something magnificent, that they don't notice....

by the way I am enjoying my coffee...
